So I found a 2004 Audi A4 1.8T being sold by the junkyard that my family has been loyal to since the first major repair on our ML350 for $1500 (talk downable to $1k) and wanted to ask for Oppo’s opinion on the car. It has some halo lights, Golf GTi Wheels, and a small spoiler. Exterior and Interior are in perfect condition except the driver seat which is covered by duct tape, but not to worry because the junkyard said they’d throw in some seats.
Just imagine this:
With these wheels and brake color
And these headlights:

RUN!!!!!!!!! And don’t forget to zigzag!

I believe all older Audis are automatically CP.

those 1.8T engines were horror-awful. There’s a reason you don’t see a single one on the road anymore. Sludge, sludge and more sludge.
Run, don’t walk away.

A 1.8T Audi that ended up in the junkyard? Might as well flush your money down the toilet now.

Making a worse decision would be extremely difficult.

This was my my 04 1.8t 6mt on the day I traded it in. It drained my bank account for 3 years. If it wasn’t one thing it was another. Stay away!

Let me explain that a little bit. With older German cars you want to find the cleanest example with stacks of dealer service history, preferably from the one original owner who once bought it brand new, or for themselves or their wife/daughter/mistress/freshly impregnated secretary/whatever. They can be reliable once they get older if and only if they have been maintained meticulously from the start.
A heavily modified example from a junkyard throws a lot of red flags.
Why did it end there in the first place?
Was the last owner more intersted in visuals than maintenance?
It took me almost half a year to find a one owner, perfect BMW service history car with the specs I wanted, and I paid for it. There were cheaper ones, but....
Almost a full year in, I think it was worth it.
Remember Logansteno and his tale of the cheap M3? Spoiler alert: He got rid of it because there was always something.

better off throwing money into a wood chipper cause you’ll get more use out of THAT than this car.

If my car is anything to go by...
Don’t get it. A 1k Audi (even with a 1.8) is basically a guarantee for disaster

Repeat after me; “ Assume the service position.”

Consider the $1k as a down payment. Budget a few times that amount for neglected maintenance and whatnot.

not even for a dollar.

There’s not much to say. Worst gen for the A4, one of Audi’s worst engines, leave it in the yard.
